Copy Cat On the Border Spicy Black Bean Recipe

On the Border Spicy Black Beans

  As this recipe was created for an On The Border dish, I decided to show a picture of the black beans that OTB serves. I will add my own photo once I get around to actually remember to take a photo of the food when I make it. These OTB Black Beans are much like their refried beans ... bland. I add some depth to the dish with this recipe. 

  The Four C's, salt and lime juice really kick up any Mexican dish. I also add onions, garlic and green chilies to round out the final flavor. OTB adds Queso Blanco (White Cheese) to the dish as a garnish, it has nearly zero flavor so adding it is optional. Also remember to never drain your beans, that is where all your nutrients are.

On the Border Spicy Black Beans

Onion (1/4 per can of beans)
Garlic (1-2 per can of beans)
Canned Black Beans
Canned Green Chilies
Lime Juice
Red Peppers (1/2 per can of beans)
Queso Blanco (Optional)

  1. Heat a pan with the oil over medium-high heat. Add onions and garlic, stir until translucent.
  2. Add beans and green chilies. Do not drain either. Add Mexican spices and salt, the more cayenne you add the spicier it will be.
  3. Simmer until water is nearly gone. Add red peppers and a dash of lime juice. Do not make it taste like lime, just enhance the flavor.
  4. Serve and garnish with the queso blanco if desired.
